Care is tailored to each patient’s fertility history, menstrual cycle, symptoms, age, overall health, and stage of fertility treatment.
Preparing for IVF
When possible, patients may benefit from beginning acupuncture care before starting an IVF cycle, ideally about three months in advance. Starting earlier allows more time to address existing health concerns and observe changes over several menstrual cycles while preparing for fertility treatment.
Some patients may have irregular menstrual cycles, menstrual discomfort, symptoms associated with endometriosis, or other women’s health concerns. Others may have no clearly identified cause for difficulty becoming pregnant.
Patients who are already close to beginning IVF can also receive individualized supportive care based on their current needs and treatment schedule.
Support During the IVF Process
Acupuncture care can continue as a patient moves through different stages of IVF, including ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and the period following transfer.
Treatment is adjusted according to the individual patient and her stage of fertility treatment. Acupuncture is provided as supportive care alongside, rather than as a replacement for, treatment from the patient’s fertility specialist.
An Individualized Approach
Every fertility journey is different. Dr. Wang considers menstrual patterns, sleep, stress, energy, emotional well-being, overall health, and other relevant factors when developing a treatment plan.
Treatment may also be adjusted as the patient moves through different phases of her menstrual cycle or IVF process.
